fortitude of gratitude

In the practice and application of gratitude we revisit past memories, become mindful in the present moment, envision what the future holds for us. Each requires a different lens to increase gratitude with the right focus.

Gratitude is a powerful emotion that can transform lives. Being grateful is more than just a list of the good stuff. Its feeling the emotions of a memory, a moment, an idea.

We examine and reflect on the meaning and purpose of past experiences, enjoy peace in the present moment, and create a vision for a future filled with hope and possibility.

By exploring the why of a feeling or an emotion we are able to deepen an experience. As more facets and aspects come to light the experience develops depth and substance for us.

When we ask who, it opens a whole world of others we are thankful for. Using the who lens to look at our past acknowledges the blessings we have received from others.

As our hearts open up to embrace all these nameless, faceless “others” we experience global gratitude - that generalized feeling of gratefulness associated with serenity.

Gratitude reframes the past as we begin to see what happened for us instead of focusing on events as something that happened to us.

Gratitude reshapes the stories we tell ourselves into blessings - making room for greater gratitude. We see our past with clarity and in appreciating this we can let it go more easily.

To elevate the present and enjoy every day, we use the lens of our senses. Mindfulness asks us to be present in the moment - be in our bodies, fully attentive to our senses.

Immersed in our senses brings the mind to rest on what's immediate instead of racing around all over the place. Applying the senses to appreciate our surroundings brings gratitude and peace - a profound happiness in where we are at that moment.

A hopeful and expectant gratitude is being optimistic, watching for the good things yet to come. It’s a gratitude that creates resilience and positive outlook even in uncertain times.

When we look to our future we are asking where are we? Gratitude sees our future through the lenses of our past and present combined. Transforming future dreams with higher purpose - making it more meaningful.

The lens of the present helps us understand where we are and what we truly desire. The lens of the past shows us our challenges and strengths, our limitations and advantages.

We ask how to reverse engineer into the future. Moving step by step into what's next. Letting gratitude lead us to the place we long to be.

By embracing gratitude as a daily practice we witness how it benefits and transforms our lives - encouraging and empowering us forward.
