more fun & fierce females

A recently published article on Smithsonian Magazine paid tribute to women whose remarkable lives deserve biopics.

From Renaissance artists to aviation pioneers, suffragists and scientists, these women led lives destined for the silver screen.

The list includes Artemisia Gentileschi, Wilma Mankiller, Bessie Coleman and other Oscar-worthy women

The article was a rebuke of the latest Oscar Awards where once again the nominees were predominantly white and male. Of the 20 men and women nominated for acting awards, only one—Harriet’s Cynthia Erivo—is a person of color.

Despite strong offerings from the likes of Greta Gerwig, Lulu Wang and Lorene Scafaria, the list of Best Director contenders is all-male for the second year in a row.

Maybe it is time for only white males to show up for this incredibly biased and outmoded event. All others should avoid it like we would the latest trending star - the corona virus.

Until then we focus our floodlights on these feisty women instead. May more of them rule royally.

A poem of seasonal observances: The Chinese Solar Terms

One of our favourite books is Liza Dalby's The Tale of Murasaki, a historical novel about the life of the famous writer of the Tale of Genji. Before she becomes Murasaki Shikibu, the book imagines the character of Fuji, a quiet but fiercely intelligent poet with a keen sensitivity for seasons and nature.

a shared ASEAN nationhood

At wonder | wander | world we travel to indulge curiosity in cultures and peoples, diverse and varied. An interactive and applied learning from the wonderful books that ignite and spark us originally.

Museums and exhibits are an immersive way of recreate a past lost to us in this vastly changing world of ours. They allow us to time travel and shape shift through the world of our ancestors.

The Lost Kingdoms exhibition at Muzium Negara in Kuala Lumpur features 103 exhibits (a mixture of real artifacts and replicas) which span over fourteen centuries and the twelve kingdoms of precolonial South East Asia.
