mothers day 2022

This Sunday wonder | wander | world celebrates Mother's Day across the globe.

In the Philippines the leading presidential contender is a charismatic and popular woman majority of Filipinos are rooting for.

Here in the US, with the leaked supreme court draft to overturn Roe vs Wade, we are marching in the streets once more to loudly protest our distrust for yet another institution of government.

To soothe our ravaged spirits, we turn to the words of wisdom from poet laureate Amanda Gorman

Listen to Amanda Gorman demonstrate her commitment to poetry as activism in a video from NowThis News. Where she addresses the importance of keeping abortion legal and stated eight reasons why we should “stand up … against abortion bans in the United States."

"New Day’s Lyric” | Amanda Gorman

Our hope is kept afloat in troubled times by this firecracker and beacon of light, Amanda Gorman. Our world is in good hands with fresh new growth like her to grace and guide us.

Change Sings: a children's anthem by Amanda Gorman

May this be the day

We come together.

Mourning, we come to mend,

Withered, we come to weather,

Torn, we come to tend,

Battered, we come to better.

Tethered by this year of yearning,

We are learning

That though we weren’t ready for this,

We have been readied by it.

We steadily vow that no matter

How we are weighed down,

We must always pave a way forward.

Amanda Gorman | an inspiration

What's trending and what we choose to support at wonder | wander | world - grRRrl power! Amanda Gorman - take a bow in your spotlight of the day. You are a bright and shining beacon for us all.

Amanda Gorman recites "The Hill We Climb

Honestly, Bernie Sanders, alone and underdressed in his Vermont mittens may be the more popular meme. Though it points all too clearly at this privileged and unapologetic white old coot doing what Bernie does best.

Bernie Sanders & his viral mittens

What? Really! So you could not be bothered to dress up for a special occasion - shame on you, bad example.

Youth Poet Laureate, Amanda Gorman performs, "The Hill We Climb"

This skinny black girl, raised by a single mother, dreams of becoming president, reciting her poem for one is much more admirable by far. We applaud you, Amanda Gorman - may your tribe thrive!
