week pick | intending with Dorothea Lucaci

Equinox has arrived, 22nd September. It marks the entry into a new season and chapter of life.

Dorothea Lucaci image

Equinox is a day of balance, and when we come into stillness, to deep listen and align to the natural laws that govern the orbit of the earth around the sun, the orbit of the sun around the galaxy, the orbit of the galaxy around the universe, the orbit of our protons, neutrons and electrons around the nucleus.

We begin to see lasting change.

When we are in flow we are no longer swimming against the currents.

Connect to the rhythm of life, meet yourself in your natural state.

Return to balance. ~ Dorothea Lucaci

liminal space

More and more religions - not just Christians or Protestants - are recognizing the spiritual significance of Advent. The spirit of the season is experiencing a revival through serious reflection, joyful expectation, and observation of traditional Advent customs.

The Advent season is a time for reflection and anticipation - reflection on our spiritual lives and anticipation for the arrival of Christmas.

Hope, by Palestinian artist Sliman Mansour

While Advent traditions vary based on religious persuasions and cultures one common practice includes focusing on four themes. The most common Advent themes are hope, peace, joy, and love.

all hallow tide

The triduum of Allhallowtide - All Saints’ Eve (Halloween, Oct 31), All Saints’ Day (Nov 1), and All Souls’ Day (Nov 2) brings much to the fore. Death. Transformation. Letting go.

The state of bardo is magnified and multiplied. Stumbling in the mystical mists that are intermediate, transitional, liminal - suspended in a state between death and rebirth.

Dia de los Muertes - Day od the Dead

Autumn is the ideal season here in the east coast - lifting Spirit with its gorgeous and vibrant palette. Vivid reds, golden oranges, bright yellows, verdant greens. Chakra colors - root red, sacral orange, solar plexus yellow, heart green. Universal, centered - core colors within as all around.

harvest moon & fall equinox

This year, the harvest moon falls on Monday, September 20 - just two days prior to the autumn equinox.

Farmers Almanac facts & folklore

The word equinox comes from Latin aequus or “equal,” and nox or “night” because on the equinox, day and night are roughly equal in length. When the sun crosses the equator from north to south, this marks the autumnal [Sep or Oct] equinox and when it crosses from south to north, it marks the vernal [March] equinox.

pregnant with potential

Blessed Beltane! It's May Day!

Spring is transitioning into summer. Here in the East Coast we have had such a long winter our heaters are still running.

overcast day after last night's storm

Yet the season's change has just bypassed spring and gone full blast into summer. With its wild thunderstorms and crazy unpredictability. Blow hot, blow cold. Sunshine today, overcast tomorrow.

A poem of seasonal observances: The Chinese Solar Terms

One of our favourite books is Liza Dalby's The Tale of Murasaki, a historical novel about the life of the famous writer of the Tale of Genji. Before she becomes Murasaki Shikibu, the book imagines the character of Fuji, a quiet but fiercely intelligent poet with a keen sensitivity for seasons and nature.
