Spring Equinox 2023

When the Sun gets to the equator and enters the tropical sign of Aries, the fire of Spirit once again descends on us. The spark of life gets ignited. The Aries quest kindled - Who Am I? What am I?

Wherever you have Aries in your chart is where this spirit awakens in you. It has called to you from your birth, and it gets re-ignited each year on the Spring Equinox.

Time to ground our self in the earth's life and death cycle. We belong and are part of this natural rhythm. Many of our cultural problems come from being cut off from it.

The choices we make for this 2023 will continue to unfold for the next few years. Spring Equinox is the beginning of the new astrological year. This comes in the midst of important collective energetic shifts.

We are seeing another bank failure out in Silicon Valley as we did over 15 years ago. What will be our response now.

How was this allowed to happen again? Have we recovered enough to sustain another bailout? Will it be worth it if we have not learned any lesson from the past?

prime warriors of change

"[D]on’t let anyone ever tell you that you are past your prime.”

~ Michelle Yeoh - Best Actress, “Everything Everywhere All at Once”

In a world of intrigue and envy what a joy these two delightful women carve for us.

Michelle Yeoh & Jamie Lee Curtis

Twin flames in a world where an Asian actor and an Asian led movie winnig or losing doesn't have to represent a win or loss for a whole diaspora - carrying the weight of that history.

We aren't there yet although these two shining stars have brought us closer.

Maya this March 2023

wonder | wander | world is proud to celebrate our women this whole month of March.

Maya Angelou has long paved the way for women of the world. A brave beacon to lead our way out of the dark.

We are all in a better place for the opportunity to stand on her brave strong shoulders and be better able to carve our own way into new territory.

"[A] brilliant writer, a fierce friend, and a truly phenomenal woman who had the ability to remind us that we are all God's children; that we all have something to offer." ~ President Barack Obama.

Our tribe thrives today because of this special woman of substance.

Shrove Tuesday 2023

This year, Easter Sunday is on 9 April – eight days earlier than last year – with its position calculated based on the first full moon that follows the spring equinox in March.

Shrove Tuesday immediately precedes Ash Wednesday, which in turn heralds the start of Lent, the Christian season supposed to replicate the Biblical story of Jesus Christ’s withdrawal into the desert for 40 days.

As the last chance for a bit of indulgence before the 40 days of Lent, Christians would use up their leftover ingredients such as eggs, butter and milk, by turning them into cakes to be eaten on the day.

Over the years there have been various ways to celebrate Shrove Tuesday and English pancakes aren’t the only type to try. There are also French crepes, Indian dosas or Japanese souffle pancakes to consider.

Yum! Yum! Yum! Binge today for we starve tomorrow.

pioneering women

It's been a while since we posted about our eclectic interests here at wonder | wander | world. In the tropics this year enjoying the blistering heat of an equatorial sun instead of our frozen northern winters of COVID times.

This incredible post about some brave pioneering cowboy women of the west caught our attention. What could their circumstances have been to make them decide to move out west when they did? How were their lives changed and affected as a result?

pioneering women of the west

The origins of the cowboy tradition come from Spain - beginning with the hacienda system of medieval Spain. This style of cattle ranching spread throughout much of the Iberian Peninsula and later was imported to the Americas.

In the Philippines we were similarly impacted by the arrival and invasion of Spain and the eventual galleon trade plied between our countries.
