Back when we were residents of Makati in the late 80s, Ayala Museum and its adjacent aviary were our haven and sanctuary. 

Meandering through the cool airconditioned hall of the museum, immersing ourselves in their permanent collections or passing exhibits was a regular treat.

Another Pinay is one of two photo journalists tapped to showcase the accomplishments of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Maria Ressa.

Fellow Filipina and prized photojournalist Hannah Reyes Morales has been tapped to highlight Nobel Peace Prize winners through a photography exhibition in Oslo, Norway and share their stories with us and the rest of the world.

Morales, along with her fellow photojournalist Nanna Heitman's coverage of Dmitry Muratov, will feature the significant contributions of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize laureates, who were selected “for their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace.” 

Morales “has created a documentary photo series that depicts how social media permeates everyday life in the Philippines. This work is personal: like many of us at home, watching the consistent assault on truth has been deeply disturbing.” 

Morales told the Nobel Peace Center, “I’ve been able to take a closer look at the chaos that is rooted online, and in the dark, I was reminded constantly that on the other side of the screen are people.”

As we ease our way back outside this summer, wonder | wander | world is compelled to explore outdoors from a fresh and appreciative perspective. Even fully vaccinated, we prefer to ease our way back into what we hope is a much better world. 

We were doubly inspired by the latest works on display by famed global artist, Yayoi Kusama - now on display at the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) from April 10th through October 31st, 2021.

Seasons Greetings!

On December 18, the newly renovated local museum in our hometown of Bacolod City on Negros Island in the Philippines was host to "Talamdan."

A home grown exhibit of the National Archives of the Philippines that documents and records the Spanish occupation and birth of the sugar industry on the island.

The Negros Museum was was built in 1925 by Juan Arellano. Originally part of the Provincial Capitol, it was known as the Provincial Agriculture Building.

Whether looted by Ferdinand Magellan or Ferdinand Marcos, the Philippines has been pillaged by its conquerors for countless years. Yet it still has the second largest gold deposit in the world. 

Some exquisite works are now on exhibit at Asia Society in New York City - Philippine Gold: Treasures of Forgotten Kingdoms is a bittersweet testament to a rich culture and the greed that hounds it.
